When Project

In 1997, the number of tigers in the Manas Tiger Reserve was 89. Significantly, there are a large number of elephants in the reserve, estimated to be around 2000.

Other animals in the tiger reserve include sambar, rhinoceros, gaur, swamp deer, hog deer, Asiatic wild buffalo, hoolock gibbons, capped langurs, gaurs (Indian bison), wild dogs, Assamese macaques and elusive species like the clouded leopard, golden cat, pangolin, fishing cat, pygmy hog and leopard. Catch sight of the rare and enchanting red panda seen occasionally in the elevated areas of the forest.
