Location
Spread over 448 sq. km, Bandhavgarh National Park is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Boasting of the highest tiger population in the country, Bandhavgarh was declared a national park in the year 1968.
Background
Once the private hunting grounds on the Maharaja of Rewa, Bandhavgarh has been witness to merciless killing of tigers in the pre-independence era which has stopped only after the imposition of wildlife preservation rights.
Wildlife in bandhavgarh
The famous white tiger was first found in Rewa, not far away from Bandhavgarh. Though you will not come across this beauty in Bandhavgarh, you do come across the royal Bengal tiger. It is also home to the striped hyena, the regal gaur, and 250 species of birds.
Climate and topography
The climate here is Indian monsoon characterized by well defined summers, winters and rains. The terrain is largely rocky with reliefs of swamps, grasslands and about 20 streams.
Access
Bandhavgarh is at a distance of 210 km from khajuraho airport. The nearest city is Umaria. The best and only time to visit Bandhavgarh is between November and June as it stays close for monsoon from July to October.
