Located
in amidst the rich natural beauty of the province of Madhya Pradesh, the Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary provides a glimpse into the world of the wild. Generally regarded to be the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling’s well-loved novel, The Jungle Book, the Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a number of animals, birds, reptiles and marine life that include the Swamp Deer or Barasingha as it is known in these parts. Besides this, the other animals include the Tiger, Bison, Gaur, Sambhar and the Chital. For ornithologists, the Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary provides a storehouse of treasure with birds like Storks, Teals, Pintails, Pond Herons, Egrets and the Peacock using its premises as their home. Located on an area that stretches to about 1,945 square Km, the Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a number of other attractions as well which include the Kanha museum where you can get all the information you want about the park. Besides this the other important place of interest is the Raja Rani, the stumps of two huge Sal trees that are today worshipped by the tribals of the land.

Climate

Located in Madhya Pradesh, Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary remains under a heat wave for most parts of the year. The average temperature ranges between 23.9°C to 40.6°C during summer and 11.1°C to 23.9°C during winters. The Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary is closed from July to mid-November during monsoon.

Besides the obvious attraction of the Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the most important places of tourist interest in the region is the Bamni Dadar, which is also known as the Sunset Point. Besides providing visitors with a breath-taking view of the scenery around the place, Bamni Dadar is also home to a number of animals like the Grazing Sambhar, Barking Deer and Gaurs.
