Welcome to Wayanad
wildlife Sanctuary and get engulfed in the region’s rich flora and fauna. This wildlife sanctuary in Kerala provides natural habitat to the wild animals within the periphery. Whistling winds and dancing trees add color to this wildlife sanctuary. Established in 1973 it boasts of a wide variety of plant and animal life. The Wayanad wildlife sanctuary is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve which was established to maintain the bio-diversity of the region. The management of the area takes utmost care of the tribals and others who inhabit the forest. The Sanctuary boasts of a wide variety of animal life. Elephant, tiger, Panther, jungle cat, civet cat, monkeys, wild dog, bison, deer, bear, etc. throng the sanctuary. Reptiles like monitor lizard and a variety of snakes are seen. Exotic birds like Peacock, babblers, cuckoos, owl, wood pecker and jungle fowl are found here.
Climate:
The South west-monsoon influences the climate of the region The months of October and November experience a fairly good amount of rainfall. Rain and thundershower hit the region in the month of July, while February is the driest month. The hottest months are May and June while January and February are the coldest.
