About Jim Corbett National Park
Jim Corbett National Park is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in India. The park, which is home to a number elephants, tigers and leopards, is spread over an area of 322 sq km (core area). Jim Corbett National Park was set up in 1936 and was once the hunting ground of the British. Jim Corbett National Park was declared a tiger reserve in 1973 under the Project Tiger, which was aimed at ensuring the safety and growth of tigers.

The park is named after the legendry hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett. Jim Corbett is believed to have killed 10 man-eaters tigers in the Kumaon and Garhwal hills.
The park is spread over two districts of Uttaranchal - Pauri and Nainital. Corbett National Park is home to a number of animals that include antelopes, sambhar, jackal, fox and chital. The park is considered as one of the best protected areas in the world. Corbett National Park has 50 mammals that range from endangered species of wild dog or dhole to Asian elephants. The park also has 26 reptiles that include fish eating crocodile and Indian Rock Python. Jim Corbett National Park is the bird watchers paradise and has about 580 species of birds. Some of the birds that you may see on your wildlife safari are peafowl, woodpecker, cuckoo, water fowl, red jungle fowl and Pallas's fish eagle.
Jeep safari and elephant safari are two ideal ways of discovering diverse flora and fauna at the Jim Corbett National Park. As you trudge along the Ramganga river, you come across Gharial and Mugger, which are two species of crocodiles.

How To Reach
Pantnagar, which is about 50 kilometres away, is the nearest airport. Ramnagar is the nearest railhead to reach Jim Corbett National Park. The Ranikhet Express plies between Ramnagar and Delhi. The train leaves Delhi at around 10:50 in the night and arrive at Ramnagar around 5 in the morning. Jim Corbett National Park is well connected by road with other parts of the country.
