Though the park is most famous for its Asiatic Lion, its diverse physiographic has made it the abode of equally multifarious flora and fauna which are an integral part of its ecosystem. With more than 200 different species of birds and a plethora of animals and reptiles to document, Sasan Gir Wildlife Sanctuary tops the list of wildlife enthusiasts and photographers from world over.

Sprawling over a huge area of approximately 1,412 sq km, Sasangir Wildlife Sanctuary has been home to Asiatic Lions since 1884. Popularly known as Gir National Park, the sanctuary attracts hordes of wildlife enthusiasts from around the world.

Surveys conducted in May 2002 have determined the number of Asiatic Lions in Sasangir National Park to be around 327.

Categorizing the wildlife in Gir National Park shows that there are over 32 species of mammals, 310 birds species, 24 reptiles species and over 2,000 species of insects.
