Nainital is a popular hill station situated at the height of 1,938 m above the sea level in the state of Uttaranchal. The city got its name from the famous temple of Goddess Naina. It is believed that when Shiva was wandering with the body of Sati on his hands, the eyes of Sati fell over this place.
The Corbett National Park is situated in the Ramganga Valley in Rannangar at distance of 128 km from Nainital. The park was named after Jim Corbett. It is a very popular wildlife resort because of its distance from Delhi.
The Ramganga River runs broadly from the west to the southwest making the topography of the region rich with numerous little ridges and ravines. The forests are rich with the Sheesham, Sal trees and the wild long grasses.
The park provides natural habitat to various wildlife population including 50 mammals, 577 birds and 25 reptiles. The park is known for the Asiatic Elephants and Royal Bengal Tiger. The river is full of Cormorants, Gharial, Mahseer and Mugger.
