Sawai Madhopur lies over the hills of the Aravalli and Vindhyachal Ranges. It is at a distance of 180 km to the northwest of Jaipur. The town of the Sawai Madhopur was built in 1765 A.D. and got its name from its founder Sawai Madho Singh-I of Jaipur.
The town is known the worldwide for its much-famed Ranthambhore National Park. The forest provides natural habitat to a wide variety of flora, fauna and avifauna. The flora population includes about 300 plant species, 50 aquatic plant species and more than a 100 species of herbs, creepers and grass.
